Information about the 2007 Year

Welcome all 8D soccer players and Parents!

Hi, I'm Mark and this is my third year of coaching for HHSC.

Debby is Michael's mum and she is our Manager this Year.

My sons name is Luke and he played with 7B, 6A in previous years.

I understand that there are a few players that played last year – and a few new ones to the team.

Please feel free to talk to me at any stage at training or the games.

There is much news and information that I need to relay to you! Debby and I attended the Coaches and Managers meeting last week - got the info pack, so it's all fresh in my mind.

Feel free to share the website that all this information goes to with your childs relatives. (see bottom for link).

I would like to start by saying apologies to those who know any of this information I'm about to detail. I thought it wise to relay as much as I can.

Please take the time to read all info and reply with any questions that you may have.

I hope that I can help our children have the most fun playing soccer this year. It’s all about having fun and feeling like part of the team!

The first trial match is on the Sunday 25th March at Montview, and the first game of the Season is on the Saturday 31st March.

It’s important to get there at least 15 minutes before any game – as we need to allocate shirts, sign-off on who has attended and work out who is going on in what position!

Under 8’s matches have 20 minute halves, 9 players on the field at one time. We have 11 in our team. The rules are the same as last year - we just play on 3/4 size fields with more players.

Registration and Equipment

It looks like everyone has paid fees and filled out registration forms etc, but if you haven’t it’s very important that you do – otherwise we can’t let the player on the field.

We have all the older shirts (new ones coming), make sure your child has the correct shorts (if not the dark green - something dark - as we have free new ones coming), socks (free ones coming), shin pads and boots.

Shin pads are VERY important – you can NOT be allowed to play without them.

It can save legs being broken (touch wood – and it’s very rare).

You will be asked to share in the washing of the shirts. All shirts must be kept together (except the girl's shirts) and washed together (keeps the colours and fading even). Debby will be doing a roster for this.

Some ref’s won’t let the kids play without their shirts / numbers. We will try to allocate a number to each player to make identification easier throughout the season.

I’ve been given all the training equipment – balls, bibs, cones etc - so we are ready to train! Note: Socks can be bought from the Canteen this year!

You must make sure your child has a Drink bottle for Training and Games – they need to drink and I don’t want then running off to taps!

Training

Training has been organized for Thursday’s at 4:30pm. Today, the 15th March is our second training Day. Training will last 1 hour. This may be shortened depending on field availability and times.

Please make sure that your child get’s dropped off and picked up off time – and delivered to the coach/helpers – not left at the roadside.

Safety is a no 1 priorty for me!

In case of wet weather:

There is a wet weather info line from KDSA – 1900 957 016 = updated 1pm and 3pm daily for training. (the kdsa website is another alternative – and free)

Just cause it’s raining doesn’t mean training is off though – I’ll need to talk to you all about this one.

I’m in the playing in the Over 35’s team this year (and did last 2 years), and and two years ago I went to the coaching course and passed.

There are strict rules for child protection which I will adhere to, and I’ll do my best to make sure the kids have a great time – and even learn a little about being a team in soccer!

Games / Location and Times etc

We can play anywhere from Berowra to Gordon.

Once the competition begins, games will be on Saturday’s and probably around 9am.

The http://www.hhsc.org.au/ has a wealth of information on field closures etc – and Must be checked on the Fri night for any last minute changes.

Please check emails - as this will be the first place to look for cancellations or changes.

There is also a wet weather info line from KDSA – 1900 957 016 = updated 7pm Friday. (the kdsa website is another alternative – and free)

Just cause it’s raining doesn’t mean the game is cancelled. If they are open and safe – we play.

We will be substituting players during the game, and we are required that all players get equal opportunity in all positions – including goalie (at least at this age).

Please talk to me if you have any concerns.

Help Required Through the year,

your help would be very much appreciated in all of these areas:
1) Dress fields – if you can get there early and we are first on the field, flags and net’s need to be put up and taken down at the end of the day. I hope we won't be asked to do this at all - It's all about timing.

2) Canteen helpers – Our field is made very warm and family oriented because we have a canteen. Not many fields do – and it’s relying on the one full time canteen manager getting help from us. This year there is a new schedule. One Saturday in the year we will be asked to look after the canteen for the whole Saturday. This means 2 parents for each hour. Hopefully we will be given plenty of time to arrange.

3) Oranges! Yes – half time oranges is Very Important for our players – we should all take turns on this one. We will need to develop some sort of roster. The best way to do this is - if you have the shirts to wash, you do the oranges. It's better to wash all the shirts together because that way they wear evenly. Debby will be doing the roster for this.

4) Communication! We all need to communicate – because our club can be fined if we miss games etc. We only have 7 players – and 6 are needed on the field – so we don’t have a lot of space to play.

Some Rules for Parents

There are different rules for Coaches/ Managers, but I thought it’d be good to share what was given to me by the club in regards to Parents responsibilities.

1. If Children are interested, encourage them to participate. However, if a child is not willing do not force them.

2. Focus upon the child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.

3. Teach the child that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without to much disappointment.

4. Encourage children always to play to the rules.

5. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game. 6. Remember that children learn best from example.

7. Applaud good players in both opposing and own team.

8. Remember, most officials give their time and effort for your child’s enjoyment.

9. If you disagree with an official, do not raise the issue with the official in question. Feel free to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.

10. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and managers. They give of their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your children and they deserve your support and assistance.

11. There is to be no drinking of alcohol on the sideline, at any time.

Ok, now that the formalities are over, lets have a great year.

regards,

Mark

HHSC 8D Coach
